I started building balsa models covered in tissue paper and dope as a young child, and over the years, that passion for flight naturally evolved into a love for radio-controlled aircraft. RC became a real escape for me during law school in 1992, and from that point on, I dove deep into the hobby. Between 1992 and 2005, I explored just about everything, from helicopters and IMAC-style aerobatics to ducted fan jets and eventually turbines.
My first composite aircraft was a Composite-ARF Extra, which sparked what would become a lasting connection with CARF Models. At the time, I flew with an AMA-sanctioned demo team called the Capitol City Barnstormers out of Sacramento, California. Back then, turbine pilots were few and far between in Northern California, and there was no one around to sign off on a turbine waiver. So I built a Jet Hangar Hobbies Hawk ducted fan jet from Larry Wolfe and made the trip to Southern California to get my waiver directly through him.
Since then, I’ve built and flown nearly every jet CARF Models has produced, starting with my first turbine jet, the Composite-ARF Rookie. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to receive various awards and recognition, but honestly, what matters most to me are the relationships I’ve built along the way.
I’ve had my share of successes, and I’ve also failed in big ways, but I truly believe failure teaches us more than success ever could. I know it sounds cliché, but for me, it’s always been about the journey and the incredible people I’ve met through this hobby.
I love helping others and sharing what I’ve learned, whether it’s in the workshop or at the field. Being part of the CARF Team is a dream come true for me. It’s the perfect fit with my flying experience and my connection to the CARF brand. I couldn’t be prouder to represent what I truly believe is the best in the industry.
