The CARF-Models Super Chipmunk is a masterfully engineered aircraft that combines the timeless elegance of a classic showplane with the advantages of modern composite construction. The entire airframe is built from lightweight, high-strength composite materials, ensuring exceptional durability without compromising on performance.

The design stays true to the original Super Chipmunk's iconic lines, offering a highly detailed, accurate scale appearance, right down to the cockpit and cowl shapes. Despite its scale fidelity, the structure is purpose-built for demanding aerobatics, blending traditional charm with high-performance capabilities in a way only CARF-Models can deliver.

It was essential to stiffen the fuselage, especially the rear fuselage. The Chipmunk has an extremely large tail that needs to be securely connected to the rear fuselage. We installed plywood-foam construction to ensure the tail area is strong enough to support the big tail. The center wing is mounted to the fuselage as usual, with two M5 bolts connecting it.

With our Mephisto V2, we learned that creating a strong yet lightweight 3-piece wing system is no easy task. Anyway, because of the transportation of Chippy, we decided to go that way again and build an exact kind of 3-piece wing. Two outer wings will be installed in each of them, one aileron servo. The center wing contains a carbon-reinforced wing spar, which connects the outer wings by a 40mm carbon tube.

The Super Chipmunk is equipped with rigid, scale-style aluminum main landing gear, designed not only to look authentic but also to withstand the stresses of aerobatic flying and regular field use. Unlike typical sport planes, where flexible gear absorbs landing forces through movement, the Chipmunk's stiff landing gear maintains its shape and alignment under load. This gives the model a very scale-like ground presence and provides direct feedback during landings and taxiing.
The Super Chipmunk’s fixed landing gear with oleo struts is not just for show—it’s part of what gives the plane its authentic scale, both visually and in its ground behavior. It’s a reminder that this isn’t just a sport model—it’s a high-end scale aerobat for pilots who love classic flying with a modern edge.
Since the Art Scholl Super Chipmunk has had two versions, we also offer the retractable-landing-gear version. This retract gear is based on electronic mechanics, combined with the same but shorter struts as the fixed gear version.

The Super Chipmunk is designed for two-stroke engines from 150 - 200cm or some four-stroke engines. The engine's maximum width should be 350mm to fit within the two-piece cowling. We offer an excellent stainless steel exhaust SET for the Desert Aircraft DA-170/180 and DA-200 made by Zimmermann Schalldämpfer from Germany. Those SETs have different header shapes to make the canister outlets the same length, which looks way more professional. The SETs can be easily installed with the included canister mount, which will be mounted in the muffler compartment. It is made so you can remove the engine dome, combined with the exhausts, as one big part.

Accessories
For our Super Chipmunk, we offer a wide range of accessories. These include the Deserst Aircraft Engines, Zimmermann Exhaust SETs, Fuel Tanks, Smoke Tanks, and a four-cylinder engine dome. In addition, we offer high-quality MacGregor servos in combination with our very own CARF-Models servo arms – perfectly matched to the model. This is the equipment we at CARF-Models trust in and recommend to use on our Products!

In the air, the Super Chipmunk delivers a flight experience that is both graceful and powerful. It tracks like it's on rails, responding predictably and smoothly to all control inputs. With large control surfaces and a well-balanced airframe, it excels in traditional precision aerobatics. Whether you’re flying slow, graceful maneuvers or fast, high-energy sequences, the Super Chipmunk feels locked in and confidence-inspiring. Its forgiving nature at lower speeds and stable behavior during landings make it suitable for a wide range of pilots.

I was the lucky person to do the actual maiden and testflights of ourSuper Chipmunk. I think the best way to describe it is that this a long awaited scale prop plane which covers all characteristics of the CARF Models Fly Baby and even tops them. The Super Chipmunk is made for more classic aerobatic maneuevers like scale snaps, and on the other hand still a very handsome slowflyer to enjoy the nice evenings with. As the original Chipmunk was back then, our CARF Models Super Chipmunk is a true champ in pattern flying resulted by the precision and performance given through its special design.
