The Baby brother of our award-winning Bolt, here's the BEAM!

The CARF-Models BEAM continues to represent the legacy of its big brother, the BOLT! and its predecessor, the UltraFlash. It features the same aerodynamics of a simply perfect wing and stab design, just subtly adjusted for the smaller size and slightly higher wingloading of the smaller jet. The successful one-piece wing design has been copied from our UltraFlash, the latest symbol of modern mid-size jet performance. The fuselage features a slightly different approach with a separately removable hatch and nose cone, allowing a smaller package for shipping and providing perfect access to all components. This modular build is especially important at a time when shipping costs are constantly rising. The clear canopy has been made an "option", avoiding this critical work step for most of our customers. The landing gear is identical and thus interchangeable with that of our all-time winner, "UltraFlash".

"Form Follows Function" is a key element of CARF-Models' designs. That's because we ALWAYS develop, produce, fly, and market our airplanes in-house, by a constantly growing and highly experienced team. With the BEAM, however, one more philosophy has been honored: "What looks good, flies good!" Colani, Rutan, Percorari... they all have proven this to the world.

ARF KIT Features

Features

As expected from a new CARF-Models design, many exciting features have been built in. Let the photos of the two prototypes speak for themselves.

One Piece Wing

The wing basically features an improved Ultraflash design, allowing the struts and wheels of the Ultraflash landing gear to fit precisely into the wheel wells. The main gear has been moved back for better ground handling. The servo mounts for the flap and aileron servos are now pre-assembled and absolutely ready to drop in your 21mm flap and 15mm aileron servos. Recommended are our MacGregor MAC 8346 and MAC 5216 high-performance servos.

One Piece stab

The one-piece stab will accept elevator servos with 15-17mm width now, and will be installed with two M4 Bolts. Here again, we recommend the MacGregor MAC 5216. This will reduce the weight behind the CG. All linkages, bolts, washers, and nuts are included in the hardware Kit.

Fin

Other than the Ultraflash, the BEAM features a removable fin just like its big brother, the BOLT! Two M4 bolts in the fin tube will hold it in place. Here, the design has also been changed to a 15-17 mm "mini" sized servo.

Engine Choice

Made for engines from 120-160 N, subtle but noticeable changes in this area have really improved the overall simplicity of engine installation. The Turbine mounting itself hasn't changed, but most importantly, the BEAM is once again FULLY DUCTED. A removable intake joiner connects the properly speed-sized intakes to the carbon engine duct. A stainless thrust tube, spiral-reinforced and ultra-light, enables the installation of even larger engines for the daredevils within you. We are very happy with our choice of Kingtech K 142 G5 for the two prototypes. It combines high speed, unlimited vertical performance, and impressive fuel economy.

Thrust Tube and Fuel System

A stainless thrust tube, spiral-reinforced and ultra-light, enables the installation of even larger engines for the daredevils within you. We do offer two different diameters. A smaller diameter for smaller engines will keep exhaust airspeed high for impressive performance, even with 120-140N engines. If you opt for engines with more than 160N of thrust, you should upgrade to the larger thrust tube, which will also require an upgraded carbon engine duct.

A new conformal fuel bag saddle tank pair with a 3.5 L capacity will eliminate the need for a UAT. An additional fuel bag in the turtle deck behind the canopy can be utilized for smoke. All fuel bags are placed exactly in the CG and are designed and manufactured exclusively for the BEAM. They are conformal and sit in the cavities between intake ducts and fuselage skin, which is covered with a robust layer of felt. This modernized and simplified fuel system is one of the biggest improvements, we're sure.

Landing Gear

We offer both a JP gear and an Electron gear. Both electric, both very reliable, and both identical to the UltraFlash gear type we have used for many years. It's interchangeable. An ARF Plus and PNP version of our BEAM, however, will mandatorily use only the JP gear, which, you can take our word for it, works flawlessly. Highly abrasion-resistant wheels are installed on both gear versions, and electric brakes are precisely dimensioned for a smooth, safe stop.

PNP - Service

We offer an extremely high-quality assembly service, delivering a ready-to-fly PNP model – including turbine, complete servo and wiring installation, electric retractable landing gear, and pre-installed fuel tanks. When you receive this model in the PNP version, final assembly takes just a few hours… A sport jet like our Beam has never been easier to get airborne! At the same time, the pictures show what your model can look like once you’ve completed the build – a true masterpiece in both looks and engineering.

Accessories

For our BEAM, we offer a wide range of accessories. These include the electric retractable landing gear, either electron or JP. Fuel bags, thrust tube, and a clear canopy are available as accessories as well. In addition, we offer high-quality MacGregor servos in combination with our very own CARF-Models servo arms – perfectly matched to the demands of a high-performance sport jet like our BEAM.

Various Color Schemes

Like all our airplanes, the BEAM is no different, boasting PU paintwork, expertly applied in the molds. Starting with the "SpektreScheme" in green/blue and red/white expect soon a gallery of our stunning paint schemes, showcasing a collection of past projects and similar airplanes, such as BOLT, UltraFlash, etc. If you're looking for a very personalized touch, we offer color swaps and completely custom designs developed in collaborative efforts between you and our skilled artists. Below are our Standard Schemes to get started with:

Flying Characteristics

Naturally, if a new airplane builds on previous designs, it will improve on its predecessor. A little or a lot, that is usually in the eye of the beholder. We are very, very happy with the flight characteristics of our BEAM. All the subtle changes and the big new ideas have paid off. From an effortless short take-off, through smooth flight routines, the BEAM instills confidence in any pilot on the controls. Rock solid when flown slowly, the large flaps make slow flybys a joy, but once cleaned up and at open throttle, the BEAM becomes a racing thoroughbred. It almost feels like the faster it gets, the more comfortable it feels.

The clean lines allow smooth and fast aerobatics, where it ’tracks like on rails’. When it’s time to land, drop the flaps to the landing position, increase power to counter the drag of the huge flaps, enter final approach, and experience a gentle touchdown, followed by a short rollout. The BEAM, just as its predecessor and big brother, will deliver a rewarding performance with any turbine producing 120 to 160 N of thrust.

BEAM Customer Credentials

Everybody needs a BEAM. Why? Because... nothing else gives you the ultimate speed experience of riding on rails with 500km/h and then, 30 seconds later, flying so slow that it almost feels like flying backwards.

All this in a small Sport Jet for a moderate investment at affordable turbine and equipment prices. That, maybe, makes it the most powerful sports jet out there!
