General Information

The Wolf in the Sheep's Coat. The beauty that really needs a chance to shine. If you ever thought about building an L-39 Albatros, this magnificent jet from CARF-Models is the one to make. The right size, the right weight, scale fidelity like no other, and a flight performance out of this world. It’s now the time to pull the trigger. A fantastic kit with perfect outlines and scale details, constantly upgraded, light, strong, and built to win.

Jet World Champion. Period!

The CARF-Models L-39 Albatros is a design of the 5x Jet World Champion Stephan Voelker. When CARF-Models purchased the Skygate Collection in 2011, this Albatros was just finished, and prototypes were flying. In terms of trueness of outline, cross sections, and surface details, it had been designed for the win of the Championship. The absolutely fantastic flying characteristics came literally for free with the package. Stephan himself had competed a few times, but wasn't able to beat the Russian competition. It took 12 more years before Frank Westerholt actually built and flew it to VICTORY! in 2023. CARF-Models initially produced it only as an all-silver "builders kit," but soon realized its potential to be painted in the molds with impressive, colorful designs, especially as more and more L-39s showed up at international air shows and air races...

ARF KIT Features

It is a very large jet with 2.37m wingspan, more than 3m length. The word „Museum Scale“ does not adequately describe the kit's detailing. So we started with the L-39 Albatros as an all-silver, highly prefabricated builders' kit first. In addition to the all-silver version, CARF Models also offers ARF schemes painted in the molds.

Retract Landing Gear

Even though the L-39's landing gear appears to be quite simple at first glance, the mechanical features are quite challenging, especially the spring action of the large trailing link, which needs to be just right in order to have the right angle of attack on the ground. The retract now is based on the reliable Electron ER-50 units, with our own-designed struts and wheels. We recommend an engine no bigger than 210 N; even a 180 N engine is sufficient for scale flying. Weight is the main factor influencing the CG.

Engine Choice

The L-39 Albatros is perfectly suited for 180 - 220N Turbines.

Scale Details

The word „Museum Scale“ does not adequately describe the kit's detailing. All rivets, screws, and panel lines are molded in; most of the plugs' surface area was actually covered with lithoplate aluminum. Meticulously, Stephan researched the original documentation at the time, and even gear, speed brake doors. Hidden control horns and torsion linkages won't let you recognize that it is an RC model. CARF-Models have then added the icing on the cake with their distinctive painted-in-the-mold technology.

ARF+ or PNP - Service

We offer an extremely high-quality assembly service, delivering an ARF+ or ready-to-fly PNP model – including complete servo and wiring installation, electric retractable landing gear, and pre-installed fuel tank. The cockpit, light system, thrust tub,e and afterburner system can be installed as well. When you receive this model in the PNP version, final assembly takes just a few hours… A scale jet like our big L-39 Albatros has never been easier to get airborne!

Accessories

For our L-39 Albatros, we offer a wide range of accessories. These include the electric retractable landing gear, fuel tanks, scale cockpit, lighting set, thrust tube, and an optional UAT. In addition, we offer high-quality MacGregor servos in combination with our very own CARF-Models servo arms – perfectly matched to the model and the demands of a high-performance scale jet.

Flying Characteristics

The CARF-Models L-39 Albatros offers exceptional agility and handling, making it ideal for both sport and experienced competition pilots. The size is just right. Go bigger, and the structure becomes fragile and hard to handle; stay smaller, and the flight performance suffers. The CARF Version is just the right size. Whether you're cruising through the skies or performing high-speed passes, the CARF L-39 Albatros is sure to impress with its outstanding performance. With a 180 - 220 N engine, the L-39 performs huge loops, long slow rolls, 4-point and barrel rolls. Extend flaps and speed brakes, and the CARF L-39 crawls along the runway's centerline almost as slow as in taxi speed. Landing is easy and stress-free, touch down nose high, brake softly, enjoy the wonderful ground handling, and re-live your flight while you taxi back.

Jet World Champion!

Team pilot Frank Westerholt from Germany has brought in several trophies over the years of flying his beautiful scale CARF Models L-39 Albatros. This led him all the way to winning the Jet World Masters in Italy! Congratulations, CARF Models is proud!
